Two glass jars filled with Homemade Trail Mix with Chocolate.

I am veryyyy picky when it comes to trail mix.  Whenever I try to buy some from the store it’s never quite right – well at least in my opinion.

Too many nuts, not enough nuts.  Too much chocolate, not enough chocolate.  Although if we’re being honest too much chocolate is never a problem, so scratch that part.  But you catch my drift.

So it finally dawned on me that I should just make my own.

When you make it at home, you have complete control of what ingredients go into the mix.  So that would clearly fix my little problem of not liking the combinations you can buy at the store.

So this is my favorite blend for a standard trail mix with chocolate and nuts.

And the best part?  You can adjust the quantities or ingredients to what works for you.

Don’t like almonds?  Swap them out for another type of nut.  Don’t like chocolate?  Swap it out… wait, that would be crazy so promise me you’ll leave in the chocolate!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup honey roasted peanuts
  • 1 cup raw whole almonds
  • ¾ cup raisins
  • ½ cup M&Ms*
  • ½ cup mini peanut butter cups*

Instructions

  1. Add all the ingredients to a large bowl. Mix to combine and store in an airtight container.

Notes

*To keep this dairy free - substitute dairy free chocolate chips or chunks for the M&Ms and peanut butter cups (I like Enjoy Life brand). You can also substitute other dairy free chocolate candies.

If you are gluten free - be sure to check the ingredients on the chocolate candies (and make any substitutions as needed).
