Fork-tender and layered with spices, I have a feeling they’ll totally become a staple in your dinnertime routine.
How To Make Dairy Free Turkey Meatballs
So, let’s talk about how this easy dish goes down:
Mix everything together. First up, we’ll combine some ground turkey, grated onion, almond flour and plenty of seasonings in a large bowl.
Form into balls. Next, we’ll gently shape the mixture into balls and place on a lined baking sheet.
Bake until cooked through. Finally, we’ll pop the meatballs in the oven for about 15 minutes until tender and delicious!
Tips & Tricks
- DO NOT overwork your meat – both when mixing everything together and when rolling into balls. This is important for keeping the meatballs nice and tender (they’ll get tough if you manhandle the meat).
- Additionally, I would not suggest skipping the grated onion. It’s used for flavor and texture – i.e. it adds moisture to the final product.
- Along those lines, I’d also encourage you to stick with the almond flour as it adds some fat and moisture to the meatballs. {Both the onion and almond flour are important since turkey is so lean AND since we’re not using any eggs.}
- Moving along, a cookie scoop makes the process of forming the meat into balls super easy. They’ll all be the same size and you won’t have to work the meat as much (see tip number 1!).
- And finally, an instant read thermometer is your best friend when it comes to cooking meat. Cooking to temperature ensures you don’t overcook the meatballs (i.e. making them dry and tough).
Serving Ideas
Need some more inspiration on how to serve? I got you covered:

How To Store
Fridge: Allow the meatballs to cool completely then store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
Freezer: Let the meatballs cool completely then place in a freezer safe baggie or container. Store in the freezer for up to 3 months. Thaw overnight in the fridge and then gently rewarm in the oven or microwave.

Dairy Free Turkey Meatballs
These easy baked dairy free turkey meatballs are perfect for all your dinnertime needs! Ready in 30 minutes or less, they're fantastic for the whole family. Tender, juicy and packed with flavor, no one will ever realize they’re also egg free and gluten free.
Ingredients
- 2 pounds lean ground turkey (94% lean)
- ⅓ cup grated yellow onion
- ¼ cup almond flour
- 1 ½ teaspoons fine sea salt
- ½ teaspoon pepper
- 2 teaspoons garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon dried parsley
- ¾ teaspoon dried basil
- ½ teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 ½ teaspoons worcestershire sauce*
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400ºF. Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
- Add all of the ingredients to a large bowl. Use your hands to gently mix everything together, being careful not to overwork the meat.
- Form the mixture into balls about 1 ½ inches in size, then place on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them evenly.
- Bake for about 12 to 15 minutes, until cooked through (the internal temperature should register 165ºF on an instant read thermometer - I recommend checking at the 12 minute mark to ensure you don’t overcook).
- If desired, transfer the meatballs to a paper towel lined plate to absorb some of the fat / liquid that was released during cooking.
- Serve however you like!
Notes
*To keep these gluten free - be sure to check the ingredients on your worcestershire sauce. Some brands contain wheat.

These are EXCELLENT! I actually made them with no flour at all and they held up and turned out perfect! Definitely making again!
So happy to hear this Kristy! Thank you for taking the time to let me know!
Can the almond flour be substituted with regular gluten free flour?
Hey Nicole – the almond flour helps add some fat / moisture to the meatballs – they won’t turn out quite the same without it!
Alternatively, you could follow this recipe for chicken meatballs (using turkey instead) – gluten free flour should work just fine in those in place of the oat flour: https://cooknourishbliss.com/2022/08/23/dairy-free-chicken-meatballs/
My kids have nut, dairy and egg allergies so I can’t use almond flour — any other suggestions? Thank you! Finding good food allergy meals isn’t easy!!!
Hey Julia! I can imagine – it’s hard enough in our house with just a dairy allergy! So I would use this recipe for dairy free chicken meatballs – they’re also gluten and egg free but use oat flour / olive oil instead of the almond flour like in this recipe. Ground turkey will work just fine in them in place of the chicken: https://cooknourishbliss.com/2022/08/23/dairy-free-chicken-meatballs/
